Carly Butler Art



Carly Butler (she/her) is a settler artist in Canada of British and Iranian descent. She currently lives and works on Vancouver Island in Ucluelet on the traditional territory of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ. Her interdisciplinary practice reinterprets nautical knowledge around navigation and survival to reflect on longing, regret, and nostalgia.

Nuu-chah-nulth artist Hjalmer Wenstob, from Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations of Clayoquot Sound, and settler artist Carly Butler, interrogate the stories transmitted through our commonly held histories through a series of ongoing collaborations.

S is a collaborative project between Gudrun Filipska in the Uk and Carly Butler in Canada. It involves a combination of real and virtual walking and running, various documented mapping processes, celestial navigation, prints performance works and an archive of postal communique, books, essays and zines.​
